STOP PRESS: CONISTON CONQUERED

Yes, you read correctly, Coniston has been conquered by teams supporting the Imagine Appeal!

On the Friday night, the teams turned up in the pouring rain to register and put up their tents ready to acclimitise before taking on the challenge for the next day. Some used ancient techniques passed down from generation to generation, many used Yoga and meditation to get in 'The Zone' before settling down to an early night; and then some others thought a night in the pub until the early hours would be the best preparation!!! Imagine were gifted with teams of all abilities, from Gym Fanatics to Office Olympians there was a challenge for everyone who attended the event.

We really were overwhelmed with the level of support and the efforts everyone had gone to in making their own T-Shirts and bringing their friends and families for support.

The rain the night before seemed to clear the skies ready for the Saturday, the heads were also cleared as the teams were up at the crack of dawn to take on the challenge. With a steady breakfast of Bacon batches and tea they were ready for the debrief and the off. The teams were split into groups and allocated either the kayak, the cycle or the hike - each team somehow managing to get allocated the opposite of what they would have  preferred, well they don't call it a challenge for nothing!!!

The day went fantastically well, with only a few minor hiccups, a few aches and pains, one tumble and an hour detour on the hike for one of the teams. The sun carried on shining through the day and conditions were perfect for all the events. All the teams finished in great times and with lots of back patting across the finish line where they picked up their medals and goodie bags.

At the end of the event after everyone had showered, changed, taken bandages off, put bandages on, compared blister sizes and stopped saying, "Tell you what, the first bit of that bike ride....." the party gathered back for the awards evening.

Everyone played a fantastic part in the day and when the results were read out there were calculators out all over the place to see who would be crowned the team of the day. The results were so close all around and were finally broken down to:

  • Fastest Hike - 42.5's
  • Fastest Kayak - RRC ALL STARS
  • Fastest Cycle - RRC ALL STARS
  • Fastest Overall - 42.5's
  • Wooden Spoon - The Rowdy Ramblers

The final award of the evening went to the RRC ALL STARS for their fantastic Fundraising which was just under  £17,000!!!!!  An absolutely INCREDIBLE amount which helped us to the overall total of over £35,000 raised!!!!

A huge thanks goes out to all the teams involved for all their training and fundraising and making the day what it was. They were an absolute shining beacon for Imagine Appeal supporters and represented us so well up in the lakes.
